What is an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to view internal organs and produce images of the human body.
An ultrasound scan uses sound waves to paint a picture of what is going on inside the body. The ultrasound scan consists of a transducer, computer and monitor. The transducer emits sound waves into the body. These waves are interpreted by the computer and resolved into an image of the structure on the monitor.
What is a Prenatal 3d / 4d Ultrasound Imaging?
For many years sonography was limited to 2D (2-dimensional) cross-sectional scans through anatomy. Now 2D imaging has been extended into 3D (3-dimensional) scanning and imaging. This requires scanning the ultrasound through many adjacent tissue cross-sections to build up a 3D volume of echo information. This 3D volume of echoes can then be processed and interrogated to present 2D or 3D images of the anatomy.
A 4D ultrasound represents the difference between still photography (3D) and video. Through this revolutionary technology your baby’s 3D image is continuously updated providing you with live action. In reality this means that, for the first time, you can watch your baby smiling, sucking its thumb, yawning and stretching as it happens and in colour.
Is it safe for the mother and the baby?
Yes. 3D/4D Ultrasounds are as safe as a standard 2d ultrasound. 4D uses the same sound intensity as the conventional 2D scans used in hospital. The biological effects and safety of ultrasound have received considerable attention over the past few years. Several review articles, textbooks, and institutional documents have been published. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) has stated that there have been no evidence of any adverse side effects of ultrasound to the baby and the mother.
Is it true, that there is a limit to the number of Ultrasounds that I can have?
There is no proven medical evidence that a number of Ultrasounds will have harmful effects on you or your baby.
Do I need to have a Doctor’s referral?
NO. As this is a Non-Diagnostis service, No-Medical advice is given by Amazing 4D Imaging and no referral is necessary. This service does not replace your medical ultrasound.
Do I need to see a doctor before I have Prenatal Ultrasound?
Yes. Of course. You are required to visit a doctor and have a diagnostic medical ultrasound of your baby prior receiving our services. A diagnostic medical ultrasound exam will determine the proper development of the baby and check for any anomalies. Our services are purely for entertainment. We provide Non-Diagnostic and Non-Medical ultrasound.
What is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound?
We advise you to have your 3D/4D ultrasound after 20 weeks. From 20 to 35 weeks is the best time to see the entire body. We would recommend having your baby bonding session done between the 20th and 35th week of the pregnancy, because the baby does contain some fat and has abundance of room to move. Following 35 weeks, the baby begins to become a little squished also may be facing the spine, which is the position for birth. Please click here to be taken to our Optimum/Booking Calendar, to see the best time to have your 3D/4D ultrasound appointment.
Do I need a full bladder for my Imaging session?
NO. Eat or drink as usual. However, we do recommend that you keep your body hydrated with water several days prior to your appointment for the best results and clearer images.
Is the scan covered by Medicare or other health insurance?
Medicare and private health insurance in Australia do not currently view the huge benefits of parental and sibling bonding as valid for covering the costs of ultrasounds. Since this is an elective procedure and is not intended to be a replacement for your doctor ordered ultrasound, you will need to pay the cost of this ultrasound as an out of pocket expense. We accept MasterCard, Visa, cash and debit cards.
Can you tell me the sex of my baby?
YES. Gender determination can be made anytime after the 20th week. However, due to the position of the umbilical cord, placenta or baby, it can sometimes be difficult to get a clear view of the genital area. We can’t guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session.
What if I DON’T want to know the gender of my child?
No problem! If you don’t want to find out the sex just let us know your wishes beforehand and we would be happy to hide the gender for you!
We simply stay away from that area of your child, and focus on other areas, such as face, hands, arms, etc.
